The Artificial Intelligence Lab (ailab.unic.ac.cy):
The AI Lab of the University of Nicosia aims at developing cutting edge technology as well as state-of-the
art research on the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science. It consists of
professors, Post-Doctoral Researchers, Ph.D. Students, as well as undergraduate students that conduct
research and collaborate on projects related to a plethora of challenging topics like: Data Science (Data
Stream mining, Deep Learning), Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Uncertain Reasoning, Bayesian
Networks), Smart Cities (Learning from Urban Data), Computational Social Science, Sentiment Analysis,
Social Network Analysis and Big Data (Cloud Computing, Distributed Systems, IoT). The team focuses on
interdisciplinary topics working with external collaborators from Political Science, Social Science, Journalism
, and Health. In addition to the research goals, the group provides high-quality teaching on relevant topics
(e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Machine Learning).

Position Description
The AI Lab is looking for enthusiastic candidates to work on the topic of Machine Learning and its
applications tο natural language processing for the health domain. More specifically, as a member of the
Artificial Intelligence the candidate should conduct research in the fields of Natural Language Processing,
Natural Language Understanding, Explainable and Transparent Machine Learning Algorithms, Deep Learning,
Conversational Agents and Knowledge Graphs. This position involves the following duties: a) conducting
research in the areas of Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, b) Implementing and Running
Data Science / Machine Learning experiments, c) Authoring technical reports or research publications, d)
Providing system implementations (software) or integrating components to a larger system, e) co-authoring
grant proposals, f) supervising junior members of the AI Lab (MSc/BSc Students), collaborate with partners
of the project’s consortium. The position is funded by a European H2020 project. Therefore the candidate
should have technical and admin responsibilities relevant to the project (e.g. authoring deliverables,
reporting to the European Commission, etc.).

Funding
The position is funded by the European H2020 project “ALAMEDA: Bridging the Early Diagnosis and
Treatment Gap of Brain Diseases via Smart, Connected, Proactive and Evidence-based Technological
Interventions”.

Qualifications Required (JuniorResearcher)
• A BSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or relevant fields.
• An MSc in relevant fields is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Programming skills (Python, R, Java, C/C++, or any other relevant language)
• Experience in Research projects and especially H2020 will be an advantage
• Interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in the field is a plus.

Qualifications Required (Senior Researcher)
• An MSc in relevant fields (Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence)
• A Ph.D. is considered a plus.
• 4 years of experience in the fields of Machine Learning, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Programming skills (Python, R, Java, C/C++, or any other relevant language)
• Great Management, Organizational skills.
• Experience in Research projects and especially H2020.
• Experience in authoring Grant Proposals will be a plus.
